Xylotymbou

The experimental Station is located at Xylotymbou within the area of the British bases at Dhekelia in the place where formerly the Xylotymbou Nursery was. It occupies an area of about 100 decares. The soils are ranging from shallow red, heavy and calcareous.

The station initiated its operations in 1998 with the settling of the first experiment assessing citrus rootstocks infected with citrus tristeza virus.

The old buildings were repaired, the electricity and water supply was completed as well as the fencing of the station. Additionally, at the site located near the entrance of the station several shrubs such as laurels, stercoulias, carob trees, cypresses, pines and others were planted that constitute today a nice landscape. A collection of almonds from Cyprus clones and/or varieties is also planted.
