With the accession of Cyprus into the European family, the Department of Agriculture, as expected, in an effort to cope with the new, differentiated and more demanding role has been reorganized. Today, the basic structure of the Department of consists of four horizontal Divisions. The Division of Productivity Sections, the Division of Horizontal Sections, the Division of Legislations and the Division of Agricultural Policy.
More specifically, since 2017 the Department has reorganized the Division of Legislations as follows: Agrochemicals and Feedingstuffs Sector, Quality Products Sector and Plant Health and Marketing Standards of Agricultural Products Sector with their main responsibility the preparation of all relevant national legislations according to the Community acquis, including guidelines to the Inspectors, Actions plans and multiannual national control programs which are based on risk analysis (risk assessment and risk management). In additions these Sectors are responsible for liaising between laboratories, other Public Services and other Private bodies /actors, for the dissemination of information to all interested parties and increase of public awareness in all matters that fall under their remittance.
The responsibility for carrying out relevant controls of the abovementioned Sectors and the implementation of the multiannual national control programs lie within the remittance of the Legislation Control Sector.
