This website provides information related to the Cyprus implementation of the EU data collection framework of Council Regulation (EC) No. 199/2008.
The data collection comprises data on catches and effort, biological data on fish stocks, as well as data on the economic situation of the fishing fleet, the aquaculture and the processing sector. The data collected are used for the assessment of the status of the stocks, the impact of fishing on the marine environment, the economic viability of the fishing fleets, and the relation between the fishing fleets and the exploited fisheries resources. Based on these assessments, the best available scientific advice is provided for achieving the objective of sustainable management of fishery resources.
The national data collection programmes are based on an EU legislative framework and are EU co-financed; from 2014 these national programmes are financially supported by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) 2014-2020.
