Geological Heritage

The mining heritage of Cyprus is directly linked to the economic and cultural development of Cyprus since antiquity to the present. The Geological Survey Department, as a competent authority, makes every effort to protect, preserve and promote the mining heritage of Cyprus. In this context and in collaboration with interested social groups, in the mining area of Kalavasos-Asgata there have been works of restoration of old mines with the purpose of creating an open-air mining museum and in the community of Katidata, a mining museum was developed with the aim that in the future it will be part of a Mining Park in the Katidata-Skouriotissa area. Recently, a viewpoint was created at the Memi mine in the village of Xyliatos. The restoration works of the Agrokipiia mine continue and at the same time the mining heritage of the Mitserou area is being studied for the purpose of protecting and promoting it.
