The Environmental Geology Section carries out a study in order to compile a Geochemical Atlas Of Cyprus. The Geochemical Atlas Of Cyprus will cover the entire Republic of Cyprus with a surface of 5,897 km2, including British military bases with a surface of 259 km2 and it will be published in printed and electronic form, so it will create a suitable base of information for the rational management of land.
The National Inventory of Contaminated Sites will be based on a Geographic Information System and will be compatible with other databases existing in Cyprus, which are used for environmental applications, and it will include the geochemical characteristics of soil based on soil classification and on the underlying lithology.
