IMPLEMENTATION OF THE LAW ON FLOODS
The purpose of the European Directive 2007/60/EC and the corresponding harmonizing Cyprus legislation is to establish a framework for the assessment and management of flood risks, aiming at the reduction of the adverse effects of flooding on people and the environment. Through long-term planning as well as through the promotion of the cooperation of all stakeholders the European and Cyprus legislation lays the foundation for better floods prevention, protection and mitigation measures and policies as well as for a higher level of preparedness for floods.

The legislation on floods also dictates that the results of its three implementation stages be reviewed and accordingly updated, be made available to the public and submitted to the European Commission for review every 6 years.
