Implementation schedule as dictated by the European and Cyprus legislation
Stage 1:The Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment (PFRA) for the country and the areas of Potential Significant Flood Risks (Flood Risk Areas) should be ready by 22 December 2011. These should be reviewed, and if necessary updated, by 22 December 2018 and every six years thereafter.
Stage 2:The Flood Hazard Maps and the Flood Risk Maps for the Flood Risk Areas should be ready by 22 December 2013. These should be reviewed and if necessary updated, by 22 December 2019 and every six years thereafter.
Stage 3:The Flood Risk Management Plans (FRMP) for the Flood Risk Areas should be ready by 22 December 2015. These should be reviewed and if necessary updated by 22 December 2021 and every six years thereafter.
The legislation requires that the likely impact of climate change on the occurrence of floods are taken into account in all 3 implementation stages.
