Within the framework of the Integrated Water Management Law, the Water Development Department is responsible to implement Part VII of the said legislation, concerning Dam Safety, which is applied together with the provisions of PI 64/2015.

Part VII of Law and PI 64/2015 determines, inter alia, (a) which reservoirs are characterized as “large elevated”, (b) which is the operator of each reservoir, (c) the register that must be kept about each reservoir, (d) the necessary qualifications of civil engineers who must systematically monitor and ensure the safe operation of large reservoirs, (e) the qualifications of civil engineers who may study again, enlarge or convert a large elevated reservoir and (f) the manner of monitoring and inspection of large reservoirs as well as the content of the relevant reports which must be prepared upon the conclusion of monitoring and/or inspection.
