The 2nd River Basin Management Plan of Cyprus,along with the 1st Floods Risk Management Plan, will be the basic tools for the water management policy of Cyprus for the period 2016-2021.

The water management framework is set out at European level by the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The Republic of Cyprus has harmonised its national legislation to WFD by «The Protection and Management of Water law» and relevant Regulations (Ν13(Ι)/2004).

Note: The 2nd River Basin Management Plan of Cyprus (2016-2021) was approved by the Council of Ministers on 7/10/2016.
