The New Strategy for the primary sector has as its main objective the increase of the contribution of the sector to the Gross Domestic Product of Cyprus, creating the opportunities of expansion and upgrading of the sector in terms of sustainability and resilience in the face of challenges. The role of the Department of Agriculture is decisive in the individual actions of the Strategy. In ensuring the coverage of domestic needs with safe agricultural products at fair prices and the promotion of products of the Cypriot land in new markets. In promoting sustainable practices. The Department of Agriculture, having an experience and tradition of more than 100 years, cannot but continue to support the Cypriot farmer and devote all its energies to the best possible adaptation of Cypriot agriculture to the constantly changing international environment, as defined from the harmonization with the EU acquis, the free movement of goods and the shift of support and income support measures for farmers. Our main concern in this process is, of course, to safeguard the interests of Cypriot farmers and to promote, as far as possible, arrangements for the benefit of Cypriot agriculture.
