Research and Projects

The main objective of this Study is to identify sites in the Pafos District within the outcrops of Basal Group and Diabase of the Troodos Ophiolite, where the rock is considered to be qualitatively suitable for the production of crushed aggregates used in the building and road construction industry. In addition, this study evaluated the parameters of each site and has selected a specific site that has the best potential to accommodate a new quarrying zone causing the minimum environmental impact.
The estimation of the feasibility for the creation of a new Quarrying Zone in the Pafos region, based on the evaluation of all parameters (positive and negative) and the investigation for securing strategic materials for the Pafos district from other alternative choices, will determine also the potential for the creation of a Quarrying Zone.
The Study took into consideration the current environmental legislation, particularly concerning nature and biodiversity, and the recent legislation that foresees the Feasibility Study and Strategic Assessment of Impacts in the environment for particular development plans and/or programmes.
