The objective of the laboratory of engineering geology and industrial minerals is to carry out laboratory tests with reliable results on the quality control of industrial minerals, building materials and soils and rocks for their evaluation and characterization.
To ensure the accuracy of the results of the laboratory tests, all the laboratory equipment used is manufactured in accordance with international standards of EN, ISO, ASTM, AASHTO and BS standards.
The laboratory of engineering geology and industrial Minerals carries out laboratory tests and / or analyzes according to the requirements of European standards EN and whenever the tests are not covered by European standards, then they are carried out based on the BS & ASTM standards. The tests are mainly carried out on industrial minerals, building materials and soil and rock samples for their characterization that are going to be used for the design or and in the construction of various infrastructure works such as roads, bridges, dams and marine-works, etc., both for the state and the private sector.
The Department has also the necessary equipment for the preparation of thin sections for petrographic purposes.
