Research and Projects

The Geological Survey Department has conducted a Study of the rocks that may contain fibrous (asbestos) minerals in the Troodos area. The study has mapped and recorded all types of fibrous minerals found in the ultrabasic rocks of the Troodos Ophilite, in an area of about 500 square kilometers, centered on Mount Olympus. It identified the potential asbestos risk, identified areas of danger, identified the risk of exposure during earthworks, and taking into account the results of the risk, advocated protective measures, and a series of suggestions. More details can be found in the attached study.
