Research Interests

• Olive culture, Citrus culture
• Evaluation and conservation of olive genetic resources
• Elaiographic description, cultivar characterization and identification of olive genetic material
• Evaluation of olive and citrus varieties in the agri-environmental conditions of Cyprus
• Quality characteristics and characterization of olive oil
• Organoleptic assessment of extra virgin olive oil

• Plant Pathology, particularly plant viruses of citrus, stonefruits, potatoes and other agricultural products,
• Programmes for the production of healthy planting material in citrus, stonefruits and grapevines,
• Diagnosis and Epidemiology of plant viruses and other diseases.
• Tissue culture, particularly micrografting and meristem culture in vitro for sanitation of citrus, stonefruits and grapevines.

• The global release of industrial and agricultural chemicals has resulted in widespread environmental pollution. I am very interested to study the effects of these pollutants on the ecology and function of soil microbial communities using biochemical (PLFA) and molecular biology techniques. Additionally the implementation of analytical chemistry regarding the fate of these pollutants in the environment will also help us to understand their relation with microbial community.
• The isolation of microorganisms from the Cyprus environment and their implementation in favor of agriculture, industry and the environment. Mycorrhizal fungi, nitrogen free living bacteria, and phosphate solubilizing bacteria are important microbial groups that have been recognized as plant growth promoting microorganisms.
• Microbial formulation and bioreactors (biofilters).

• Evaluation of tablegrape varieties under different environmental conditions.
• Evaluation of the tablegrape and wine grape varieties grafted on rootstocks under different environmental conditions.

• Management, collection and conservation of vine genetic material of autochthonous and international wine and tablegrape varieties and wild vines.
• Ampelographic description of autochthonous wine and tablegrape varieties.
