The Tochni Experiment Station was established in 1982 as an outstation of the Agricultural Research Institute within the framework of the Vasilikos-Pentaskinos irrigation project. Today, the Station features 11 hectares and supports research activities in Plant Protection, Soil Science, Vegetable and Ornamental crops, Plant Improvement and Agrobiotechnology. In order to support research requirements, the Station accommodates latest technology Greenhouses and Screenhouses, a desalinization unit, a meteorological station and a mobile unit for atmospheric monitoring. Frequent informative and training sessions for students, farmers and agricultural extension officers are organized at the Tochni Station. On November 2010, a training centre was established, offering theoretical and practical training to scientists and agricultural extension officers regarding sustainable hydroponic production.
